New Surry Theatre Presents

The Craft Of Acting/Acting as Truth

with Bill Raiten

This class will teach "Acting as Truth" and "The Craft of Acting" using improvisation, mind occupation, creative team scenes and discussion.

Using improvisation, mind occupation, creative team scenes and discussion, the NST acting student learns to listen, to react as if "this is happening for the first time" and to be utterly truthful as they portray their feelings in improvisations that other class members comment on. The teachings of Uta Hagen, Sanford Meisner, Lee Strasberg, Stella Adler and Stanislavski are discussed and used as each actor finds the way to their own truth and to the abilities that reside in their individual talent.

The NST uses actors from its classes in many of the plays it produces. This happens because a trained actor auditions better then an untrained actor and a trained actor will give the author and the audience the most satisfaction and pleasure. Experienced and non-experienced students of all ages will share the stage and learn together. The last class will be an Open House performance for the community.

The Craft of Acting/Acting as Truth meets Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30.
